Hamidreza Jahantigh is an Iranian artist who lives and works in Borås, Sweden. He has a bachelor’s degree in carpet design from Sistan and Baluchistan University and a master’s degree in painting from Shahed University of Tehran. Hamid also has a teaching degree from Tarbiat Moalem University of Zahedan and has been working as an art teacher for 18 years. He has had various art exhibitions in Iran and has also illustrated several books for children. Since 2018, when he moved to Sweden, he worked as a gardener at Tranemo Garden Service and took a temporary break from artistic activities. However, in December 2022, he opened his studio in the city of Borås and began to work again actively as an artist.
About the work: Improvisation, freedom of the mind, creating a feeling of liberation, and transcending given frameworks, are prominent features of Jahantigh’s work. By consciously avoiding making a clear red thread or line of continuity in his work process, he emphasizes the opening up of a free space. In this way, the struggle against becoming isolated and entering a specific structure can be easily traced in his life experience in Iran and then his immigration experience. Jahantigh knows the history of art very well and uses this knowledge to cross time and place boundaries. After his migration to Sweden, he further opened up his artistic experiences. By imitating the techniques shared by other artists via images on social media, he has given himself a limitless experience of techniques and motifs. This form of playfulness experienced in Jahantigh’s work was seen previously in his design of children’s books, however today it manifests in all his artistic expression.
