WHAT 

School of Intrusions is an experimental educational platform in Palestine that aims to develop a space of collaboration through independent mutual practice of ‘education’ as a form of intervention in the world; one that is radical and self aware. The platform will mainly focus, through thought and its correlative action, on experiential site-based learning (unlearning), formation of communities, collectivism, and alternative economies. It aims to actively practice the notion of ‘commons’ in everyday work and life, feeding the collective imagination towards unlearning dominant ideologies proliferated by the interlacing of neoliberal economy and colonialism. 

On a structural level, the school is free of charge, and is open for participants from different backgrounds to register through the open call. The school will consider the city of Ramallah as a communal space; participants will meet in private and public spaces in the city. Meetings will take place after labor hours so that workers can participate. The school is transparent and all participants are equal, sharing available resources and tasks.

The program is site based, every evening the group will meet at a designated site in the city and do various related activities; those include reading site-related texts, writing, listening, walking, interacting with the space and people, perform certain actions and other undertakings. We hope to probe questions many of us have been discussing; How do we use art as a tool for (un)learning? How has the Palestinian cultural landscape changed since the early 90s? What institutions, urban and rural practices and formations has it produced? What economies has it produced? How can this be changed? How did other spaces transform in similar ways? What can we learn from their experiences? As well as many other questions to be forged together. We hope to continue asking questions together in order to come up with better questions…

ماذا

مدرسة الدخلاء هي منصة تعليمية تجريبية في فلسطين تهدف إلى تطوير مساحة من التعاون من خلال الممارسة المتبادلة المستقلة للتعليم كشكل من أشكال التدخل في العالم وليس منفصلاً عن الحياة اليومية. نتساءل من خلال هذه المنصة عما إذا كانت المعرفة التجريبية القائمة على المواقع المحلية، وتشكيل المجتمعات والاقتصاديات البديلة ممكنة. من خلال الانخراط في النقاش والفكر والفعل/ العمل، سنحاول التدخل بفعالية في مدينة تمت خصخصتها، ومعالجة المساحة والوقت والمعرفة على أنها مشاع. 

هل يمكن أن نُفكك الأيديولوجيات المهيمنة التي انتشرت من تشابك الاقتصاد النيوليبرالي مع الاستعمار؟ كيف يمكننا الانخراط بشكل نقدي مع الفكر النظري مع السعي لإرسائه في السياق المحلي؟ ما نوع المعرفة المنتجة من خلال التفكير من موقع/مكان معين؟ هل يمكن أن نُنتج معرفة مختلفة من خلال الأفعال؟ 

 المدرسة مجانية و مفتوحة للمشاركين/ات من خلفيات مختلفة. تعتبر المدرسة مدينة رام الله مشاع/مساحة مشتركة. سيجتمع المشاركون في الأماكن الخاصة والعامة في المدينة. وتعقد الاجتماعات بعد ساعات العمل حتى يتمكن العمال من المشاركة. جميع المشاركين متساوون، ونأمل أن نتقاسم الموارد المتاحة والمهام.

يعتمد البرنامج على وجود المجموعة في مواقع محددة، فكل مساء ستجتمع المجموعة في موقع معين في المدينة وتقوم بأنشطة مختلفة ذات صلة؛ وتشمل هذه قراءة نصوص متعلقة بالموقع، والنقاش، والكتابة، والاستماع، والمشي، والتفاعل مع الفضاء والأشخاص، ومشاهدة أفلام، وتنفيذ أداءات معينة ونشاطات أخرى. نأمل أن نناقش مواضيع الكثير منا يتساءل حولها؛ كيف نستخدم الفن كأداة للتعلم؟ كيف تغير المشهد الثقافي الفلسطيني منذ أوائل التسعينيات؟ ما هي المؤسسات والممارسات والتشكيلات المدينية والريفية التي أنتجتها؟ ما هي الاقتصادات التي أنتجتها؟ كيف يمكن لهذا أن يتغير؟ ما هي التجارب العالمية المماثلة؟ ماذا يمكن لنا أن نتعلم من تجاربهم؟ وكذلك العديد من الأسئلة الأخرى التي يجب صياغتها معًا. نأمل أن نواصل طرح الأسئلة معًا من أجل الخروج بأسئلة أفضل …

WHY 

School of Intrusions started from an urgency in understanding the conditions of art and knowledge production in the Arab Region, and specifically in Palestine.

Under a new, neoliberal, urban environment – where new forms of localism have emerged – the notion of freedom has become associated   with  the capacity to consume. This link has produced an illusion of freedom in the occupied territories, where people are still under Israeli colonialism, on one hand, and with fantasies of a postcolonial condition, on the other. What is the role of art production in a society subjected to the dual effect of capitalism and colonialism?

The project comes from the belief that ‘Education’ cannot be indifferent to the reproduction of dominant ideologies. In Palestine it is becoming a tool for further social and political discipline, serving the market and conservative agendas. There is a lack in present artistic/ cultural educational models in Palestine which attempt to change neither the content of educational material, nor its structural conditions. The question  around capital and privatisation in relation to educational institutions is a necessity; realising that more independent pedagogical structures are urgently needed.

لماذا

نتج مشروع مدرسة الدخلاء عن التفكير حول ظروف إنتاج الفنون  والمعرفة في فلسطين والعالم العربي.

في ظل الواقع النيوليبرالي اختلط مفهوم الحرية بمفهوم مدى قدرتنا على الاستهلاك.  ينتج عن هذا الفهم للحرية أعراض مختلفة،  فمثلا تنكر بعض المؤسسات الثقافية الفلسطينية عبر برامجها الثقافية وآليات عملها الظروف السياسية الحالية. تعمل المتاحف والمعارض وسوق الفن في فقاعة من السيادة والاستقرار الوهمي. كشعب يحارب من أجل الحرية يجب أن نمارس وننتج بدائل تكسر القوالب السائدة. لا يمكن أن يرضخ التعليم للإيديولوجيات السائدة في فلسطين ، أصبحت المؤسسة التعليمية بكافة أشكالها أداةً للانضباط الاجتماعي والسياسي ولخدمة السوق وجداول الأعمال المحافظة. هناك نقص في النماذج التعليمية الحالية في فلسطين التي لا تحاول تغيير محتوى المواد التعليمية ولا هيكليات المؤسسة التعليمية.. السؤال حول رأس المال والخصخصة فيما يتعلق بالمؤسسات التعليمية أمر ضروري ويجعلنا ندرك أن هناك حاجة ماسة إلى هياكل تربوية أكثر استقلالية.

WHO

The school is initiated by Noor Abed and Lara Khaldi, and is open to all cultural practitioners, local and international – who are in Ramallah and available for the dates mentioned. 

The School is free of charge. Main language is Arabic, with a possibility of translation if needed.
